I am writing this review after well over 1 year of use. I bought the Bowflex 552 dumbbells for their ease of usage while working out. I live in a small condo, thus space is very important to me. I started P90X and found myself spending too much time moving weights around. The Bowflex dumbbells take away one less excuse for not pushing yourself hard during workouts. You put these things in front of you, and all you have to do is turn the knob to the desired weight and exercise. I have had no problems with the plates falling off or getting stuck. The packaging was very good when they arrived. I don't toss weights around and drop them on the floor like some people, so that I can't really comment on how durable these things would be after dropping them alot. Just don't leave them around your dog. My puppy English Bulldog chewed on these things and they survived with only a couple of scrapes. The only complaint is the size of the dumbbells when using low weight. P90X has a couple of exercises that need you to maneuver the weights around. The length of the dumbbells can be cumbersome when attempting some of the excercises compared to a typical dumbbell. I have owned these weights for over a year now, and they are great. Well worth the price. They will get even more use after the release of P90X 2.

I purhcased the Bowflex 552 for use along with P90X. They could not be more perfect. I love being able to quickly and easily change the weights of these and they allow me to do all of the P90X workouts that require weights/bands (aside from using bands for doing pullups). They are a bit bigger then I expected and I try not to bounce them off of each other like I would with the dumbells from the gym. And given their length it is hard to do certain movements (like hammer curls) because you can't get the squeeze at the top because the dumbell will hit your shoulder before full contraction.

While they are expensive, it is only a few months of gym membership for me and to be honest I will use them more as I can avoid actually having to go to the gym (especially in the winter). I'm very happy with these, the only thing I wish is that I purchased them sooner as I have been eyeing them for quite a while! So the gym membership has been cancelled and I can't wait to play the next P90X video to use these.
